Attention Human Library readers,

Founded in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2000, the HUMAN LIBRARY is now hosted globally in over 80 countries. The model is that each person sharing their story is a book and, like in a library, the book can be checked out for a short time, generally 30 minutes, by our patrons as readers. Each “book” has a specific title and will be read about the experience in that topic. The reader interacts with the “book”, asking questions in order to gain a deeper understanding about the books personal experiences.

Novi Public Library is very excited to host this global phenomenon on calling attention to our prejudices and preconceived biases, that as humans we all inhabit in one way or another.

As a Reader for our Human Library event, you will need to reserve a time slot for reading our Books. Each Book will have a room. There will be 10 books that will be available for reading. The time slots depending on the number of readers will be honored on a first come for serve basis. For example we will allow 10 spots available for each incremental time slot. Each reading will be about 30 minutes long so be curious, and ask questions.
